MUNDUS VINI NORDIC 2023

Great success for German wines in Scandinavia

The Grand Wine Award for German wines in Scandinavia MUNDUS VINI NORDIC took place for the second time in 2023.

Around 30 Scandinavian jurors tasted German wines in June as part of the 'Mundus Vini Nordic' competition. The German Wine Institute (DWI) held this competition in collaboration with Meininger Verlag in the Sjømagasinet restaurant in Oslo.

This is intended to strengthen the positive development of German wine exports to Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Scandinavian jury members ensure that the wines selected for the competition meet the taste of the “Nordic palate”.

The jury awarded a total of 65 wines with gold medals and 46 with silver medals. In addition, the winner was chosen in each category. The wines on offer came from all German growing regions.

Award ceremony in autumn 2023

The award ceremony for the selected wines from this competition takes place in autumn. Then the winning wines from German producers that are available on the Scandinavian market will be awarded.

'Mundus Vini Nordic' is a platform for wine producers who want to export and establish their products in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland. 'Wines of Germany' representatives from the four Scandinavian nations will use the competition's award-winning wines at various events.

All winning wines are awarded MUNDUS VINI medals in silver, gold and large gold. The awards help to maintain contact with existing or potential local dealers. The exhibition was held for the first time in 2019.

Scandinavia exceeds US wine export value

With Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, the Scandinavian wine market is the second most important export market for German wines after the USA. With continued growth, the value of all wine exports to Scandinavia now even exceeds the value of wine exports to the USA. The wine competition is reserved exclusively for German wines, taking into account the specific characteristics of the markets.
