CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1.
a) Only bottled still wines made from the grape variety Rhine Riesling (White Riesling) may be entered into the competition.
b) The competition is open to Rhine Rieslings from wine-growing regions around the world. In respect of wines from the European Union, the competition is open to wines with a protected designation of origin. Wines from countries outside the European Union must be submitted with a more precise geographical indication than merely the country of origin.

2. Still wines entered into the competition must meet the requirements for one of the following eight categories:
Category I: Riesling dry (with moderate alcohol content)
Dry Rieslings without single vineyard indication on the label, up to and including 12.0% ABV *
Category II: Single Vineyard Riesling dry (with moderate alcohol content)
Dry Rieslings with single vineyard indication on the label, up to and including 12.0% ABV *
Category III: Riesling dry
Dry Rieslings without single vineyard indication on the label, 12.5% ABV or above *
Category IV: Single Vineyard Riesling dry
Dry Rieslings with single vineyard indication on the label, 12.5% ABV or above *
Category V: Riesling medium dry/off dry
Rieslings that are classified as medium dry and off dry
Category VI: Riesling sweet
Sweet Riesling wines of all quality classes (up to late harvest)
Category VII: Riesling noble sweet
Noble sweet Rieslings (e.g. Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese, Eiswein)
Category VIII: Riesling mature
Rieslings of vintage 2016 or older (all flavour profiles are permitted)

The wines will be assigned to the categories on the basis of their analytical data and the information on
the label.
* The alcohol content indicated on the label will apply.

3. Each entrant can enter as many wines as they wish.

4.
a) At the time of entry, the remaining stocks of each wine in categories I to VI must amount to at least 200 litres, and at least 100 litres for each wine in category VII + VIII.
b) At the time of the awards ceremony, there must be at least 12 bottles left of each of the winning wines (1st–3rd place).

5. Each wine must be submitted with a wine passport completed in full (www.register-wine.com). Entrants guarantee that the wines submitted comply with the rules and regulations of viticulture. Incorrect information submitted during entry will disqualify the wine concerned from the competition. If incorrect information is submitted intentionally, all the entrant’s products will be disqualified from the competition.

6. The entry fees are € 79.00 net per sample submitted. The registration obliges - regardless of the effectively participation - to pay the indicated fee.

7. Registration will be accepted until the date specified in the registration form.

8. For each wine submitted, 6 bottles with the wine passport enclosed (www.register-wine.com) must be sent to the following address:

9. The deadline for entries is the date specified in the registration form. Entries submitted after this date can only be
considered on request.

10. The tasting is conducted under the auspices of the patron – the Minister for Economy, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of the federal State of Rheinland-Pfalz – as well as the partner organisations involved and the expert judging panel.

11. All wines submitted will be tasted blind and evaluated using the international 100-point system. The samples will be assessed by unbiased judges.

12. The judges’ decision is final.

13. Awards:
‘Best of Riesling’: The top three entries will be recognised in each category. You also have a chance of winning medals based on your points total (87 points and above). This finish can be indicated on the wine label, the submitted batch number and/or the AP number, as this is an officially recognised competition.
Riesling Collection of the Year (Condition: at least 4 wines in the competition, of which at least 50% achieved 87 points or more). In case of equal average of all evaluated samples from several producers, the highest number of awards per entrant decides.

14. ‘Best of Riesling’, special awards:
a) Best Steep Slope Riesling in categories I to IV: the steep slope must be indicated on the label; the legal requirements in relation to steep slopes apply and it must be indicated, at the time of submission, that the wine in question has been grown on a steep slope.
b) Best Riesling from the New World in categories I to IV
c) Best European Riesling that does not originate from a German growing region, in categories I to IV
d) Best Riesling in Food Retailers in categories I to IV
The event organiser reserves the right not to bestow a particular award in any given year.

15. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony in June 2024.
