Award ceremony “Best of Show” at the world’s leading wine trade fair ProWein

At ProWein in Düsseldorf, nearly 70 international wine producers received special MUNDUS VINI prizes for their wines, awarded after the 20th Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI.

Christian Wolf, Director Degustation, made the awards, together with the members of the management board, Robert Joseph, Michael Hornickel and Professor Dr. Ulrich Fischer.

The MUNDUS VINI spring tasting 2017 took place at the end of February. Nearly 6,200 wines were tasted and evaluated by professional tasters from all over the world for the 20th Grand International Wine Award. In addition to the medals Grand Gold, Gold and Silver, special prizes were awarded to the best wines in categories such as “Best of Show Riesling Germany”, Best of Show Champagne Vintage “Best of Show Barolo” as well as  “Best of Show Chile red”.

The special prizes were given to, among others, Moreno Nardin for “Best of Show Chianti Classico Riserva” for the 2012 Basilica San Martino Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG,Basilica Cafaggio S.r.l. (Italy), Gonzalo Pedrosa for “Best of Show  Port Colheita” for the Barros Porto Colheita 1974, Fonseca GmbH (Portugal), Hein Koegelenberg for “Best of Show South Africa red” for a 2015 La Motte Millennium, La Motte (South Africa) or Josetxo Soria for “Best of Show Rioja Gran Reserva” for a 1998 Monte Real Gran Reserva, Bodegas Riojanas (Spain).

Moreover, the Best Producer Australia was awarded to Kilikanoon Wines, which received in total 7 medals (3 Gold and 4 Silver medals). Farnese Vini was awarded Best Producer Italy with a total of 14 medals (5 Gold and 9 Silver medals).

Schlumberger, Meckenheim, was named best importer (in Germany), with its wines receiving a total of 6 Gold and 6 Silver.

In total, both well-known producers and newcomers were honoured, such as the

Champagne house Alfred Gratien, the winery Tsantalis from Greece and other top wine producers from Spain, Portugal, Italy and from overseas.

MUNDUS VINI was founded 16 years ago by Meininger Verlag and has rapidly become one of the most significant wine competitions in the world.
