Almost 4,300 wines from 42 countries all over the world in the competition
Thursday, 31 August 2017, sees the opening of the 21st Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany. The panel of experts will be tasting and rating exactly 4,281 wines from 42 wine nations. The best wines will receive the widely recognised and highly coveted Silver, Gold and Grand Gold medals.
With almost 1,200 submissions, Italy is sending the most entrants to the competition, followed by Germany with 800 and Spain with 750. Portugal and France are each sending 325 wines to be assessed by the critical palates of the experts. However, there will also be a variety of exotic wines from countries such as Brunei and Taiwan.
A total of 164 jurors will be travelling to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse from 41 countries; among them are highly regarded oenologists, international wine journalists and specialist wine merchants and sommeliers, all of whom will use their skill and expertise to judge the quality of the wines and identify the best amongst them.
About MUNDUS VINI
MUNDUS VINI was founded 16 years ago and has since then been one of the most significant wine competitions in the world. The number of submissions, which is currently over 10,000 different wines a year, is a testament to the level of importance that this competition has now acquired – not only in Germany, but also in the rest of the world. The wines are rated in accordance with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) 100-point scheme. The Wine Award is held twice a year; once in spring and then again in late summer.
MUNDUS VINI was founded in 2001 by the Meininger Verlag publishing house, which specialises in trade publications for the wine industry. It is considered the European market leader in this field. The media company, which was founded in 1903, also organises trade fairs, industry events and conventions.
