Best of Show special awards given to the wineries at the ProWein exhibition

Nosio SPA Gruppo Mezzacorona receives Best Italian Producer award. Les Domaines Paul Mas wins Best French Producer

Around 90 national and international winemakers received awards on the first day of ProWein, the world’s most important wine trade fair. Their wines were honoured as the best in their categories at the 24th Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI.

The MUNDUS VINI management board awarded the Best of Show Chianti Riserva prize to Fattoria La Vialla for its 2010 Casa Conforto Chianti DOCG Riserva. Victoria González-Gordon and Johannes Winz of Gonzalez Byass accepted two prizes from the jury, taking Best of Show Castilla for their 2017 Finca Constancia Selección and Best of Show Sherry for their Cristina.

Other winners included: Azienda Agricola Ca Dei Frati di Dal Cero Pietro & Figli (Best of Show Amarone della Valpolicella), Bertani Domains Società Agricola (Best of Show Vino Nobile di Montepulciano), Silvio Carta (Best of Show Italy white), Champagne Pommery (Best of Show Champagne Vintage), Piper-Heidsieck (Best of Show Champagne Rosé), Famille Carabello-Baum (Best of Show Burgundy red), Domaines Schenk (Best of Show Spain red in retail markets), Domingos G.R. Alves de Sousa (Best of Show Douro), La Motte (Best of Show South Africa white). Dr Li of Château Changyu Moser XV accepted the award for the best Chinese wine of the competition, the 2015 Grand Vin Cabernet Sauvignon. Countess Marie Degenfeld of Degenfeld received the Best of Show Hungary award.

Besides awarding the best wines for each category, MUNDUS VINI honoured the estates with the best collections: Nosio SPA Gruppo Mezzacorona received the Best Producer Italy award. The Best Producer France prize went to Les Domaines Paul Mas. Araex – Spanish Fine Wines was named Best Producer Spain, and Sogrape Vinhos received the Best Producer Portugal award. The Austrian estate Müller took the Best Producer Austria award. Best Producer Moldova was awarded to the Vinaria Purcari winery. Nicolas Brun of Doluca accepted the award for Best Producer Turkey.

The Australian estate Kilikanoon Wines was crowned Best Producer Australia by the jury. Robert Bruijnzeels and Juan Molina of M.P. Wines from Argentina accepted the Best Producer Argentina award for their Bodegas Salentein winery.

MUNDUS VINI identified the Georg Müller Foundation’s VDP estate in Rheingau as the Best German Grower at this year’s Spring Tasting. As in previous years, Peter Winter and Tim Lilienström presented the best collection, winning five Gold and four Silver medals.

Best Importer went to Wein & Vinos GmbH, which specialises in Spanish wines. The wines marketed in Germany by Wein & Vinos received 13 Gold and 12 Silver awards.

The special prizes were awarded by the MUNDUS VINI management board, represented by Director Degustation Christian Wolf, wine journalist Michael Hornickel, Professor Ulrich Fischer of Weincampus Neustadt, and Robert Joseph.
