German wine and spirits giant Rotkäppchen-Mumm Sektkellereien GmbH will acquire the Eggers & Franke Group on 1 May 2018, subject to approval by Germany’s anti-trust authorities.

Eggers & Franke, founded in 1804 by Georg Heinrich Eggers and Johann Heinrich Franke, is one of Germany’s most storied wine distributors. From 2003 it began a process of acquisitions and mergers; today, it has five companies under its umbrella, including Reidemeister & Ulrichs, Joh. Eggers Sohn, Ludwig von Kapff, Ruyter & Ast and Eggersohn. The companies cover distribution through all levels of HoReCa and the off-trade and has a wide portfolio, representing brands such as Casella, Dr. Loosen, Markus Molitor, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Hugel & Fils and M. Chapoutier, to name just a few.

Based in Freyburg, Rotkäppchen-Mumm is a well-known producer of sparkling wines, spirits and wines, employing more than 630 employees at six locations. According to the same press statement, the company sold 271m bottles in 2016, generating a turnover of €986m. The company is particularly strong in the sparkling wine segment, with Geldermann sparkling wine and Ruggeri DOCG Prosecco.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
