MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting 2018: results

Kilikanoon and Peñaflor named best producers from abroad // Record number of entries for the six day competition // High-calibre awards ceremony at the world's leading trade fair, the ProWein in Düsseldorf

With 33 Grand Gold, 1,102 Gold and 1,575 Silver the Spring Tasting of the Grand International Wine Award MUNDUS VINI came to a close last Sunday. Nearly 270 international wine experts from 44 countries spent the six days critically judging almost 6,770 wines from more than 150 wine growing regions all over the world.

Beside the traditional European wine growing countries, several high quality wines from Australia (83 medals), South Africa (45), Argentina (41), Chile (39) and the United States of America (16) were awarded at the Spring Tasting 2018.

Best producer of Australia is named Kilikanoon Wines with 13 medals, best producer from Argentina is named Grupo Peñaflor for its 12 medals.

The highest award of the competition, Grand Gold, was given to two wines from Australia as well as one from Argentina:

2014 The Visionary Cabernet Sauvignon from Wakefield/Taylors Wines, Australia

2014 Noble One Botrytis Semillon from De Bortoli Wines, Australia

2015 Barrel Selected Syrah from Pyros Wines, Argentina

At this year's unofficial country competition, the Italian wine producers received the highest number of medals of 647 in total, irrefutably proving their high quality; they were closely followed by Spain with 590 medals, Portugal with 322, Germany with 290 and France with 267 medals.

About 600 award-winning wines of the MUNDUS VINI Spring Tasting will be presented to the trade audience at the world's largest wine trade fair, the ProWein in Düsseldorf, taking place from 18 - 20 March 2018, at the MUNDUS VINI Tasting Area. The wines with a special award will be honoured on the first day of the trade fair at the high-calibre presentation ceremony, and the certificates presented to the vintners by the Board of MUNDUS VINI in person.
